Position Responsibilities - Summary
This individual will provide hands-on technical performance and capacityengineering, analysis, benchmarking and optimization of applicationscritical to the Investment management lifecycle. He/She will provide

Detailed Responsibilities;

As an architect within the Enterprise Application performance and capacity management Center of Excellence at the firm, this individual will have the following responsibilities:
· Develop, Implement and evangelize a firm-wide application performance and capacity engineering strategy and management plan.
· Implement a central model (including staff, competencies, tools, processes, deliverables etc.) for engaging and delivering application performance/capacity management services to decentralized teams
· Provide technology, thought and process leadership to establish guidelines, blueprints and standard operating procedures for application and system capacity management
· Functioning in a highly collaborative environment, the candidate will be working with multiple application development, architecture and infrastructure teams to diagnose application hot spots, bottlenecks,
performance /capacity debugging and engineer corresponding optimization techniques and technical solutions for meeting application performance and
capacity needs.
· Responsible for translating architecture recommendations for performance improvements to specific actionable solutions for the applications and systems
· Work with the application and business owners to establish, benchmark, and report on performance SLAs and Liaison with Operations teams to gather Performance and Capacity metrics and develop management dashboards
· Define, maintain, and manage the performance and capacity engineering tool sets to assist with timely and quality applications delivery

Keys to This Position:

1. This individual will be responsible for establishing the Center of Excellence (COE) around Performance and Capacity Engineering. The ideal candidate will have developed a COE in this arena at another firm similar in
size and scope to the client – 3000+ employees – Several Hundred Windows & Unix Servers – Several Hundred Applications – 400+ IT Employees – Global in Nature – 24×7 Mission Critical Databases up to the multi-terra byte level - High Transaction Volume etc.
2. Strong Client Relationship skills are needed: This individual will interface with application development teams and the business, will determine what tools are needed and how the group will be staffed.
3. This position is a combination of hands on Architecture and Management. The technology environment includes Java/J2EE/Swing, etc. (see below). Therefore a strong Architecture/development and Management background is
required.
4. Financial Services are desired, but not required.

Required Skills and Competencies:

The ideal candidate will have excellent application technology architecture skills, leadership and communication skills. Specific requirements include:
· A minimum of ten years experience with performance and capacity management, analysis and optimization of applications, systems software, databases, middleware, storage and operating systems.
· Experience with Java/J2EE/Swing and .NET Application Performance tuning, Solaris/Linux/Wintel based systems capacity management, deep understanding of Oracle/Sybase based database technologies and SQL review, tuning and optimization.
· Working knowledge of JMS based messaging platforms, EAI platforms and performance analysis experience with Web services/SOA (e.g., SOAP, UDDI, WSDL, etc.).
· Excellent organization, verbal, presentation and written communications skills.
· Strong delivery focus, self-motivated, multi-tasking capabilities and ability to work in a fast paced, team oriented environment, with well-balanced technical and client expectation management skills.
· Advanced engineering or computer science degree preferred.

· Drive all aspects of product testing, beginning with analyzing the goals of a project/release and determining a cohesive test approach balancing time and resources. Run manual and automated tests based on risk analysis and other factors, and provide timely status information to the rest of the project team. · Work closely with test automation engineers to identify key areas that can impact test efficiency and effectiveness. While this position does not primarily involve automated test development, candidates should be able to specify and take advantage of tools developed by automation engineers, including creating test scripts and leveraging existing infrastructure such as a virtual machine test lab.
· Proactively work to review and improve the software development process
· Create clear, detailed defect reports and feature requests and play an active role in triaging/verifying identified issues
· Configure and work with test environments using multiple OS platforms (Red Hat Enterprise, Solaris, HP-UX, AIX, Windows)
· Work on multiple projects in parallel. Candidates should be comfortable working independently as well be able to coordinate and lead other engineers through a test effort.
· Maintain and configure software used by product development for defect/feature tracking and test case management

Required Skills and Competencies:

- 5+ years QA experience, including projects involving enterprise client/server software systems, preferably J2EE-based environments.
· Knowledge of RDMBS systems and SQL scripting
· Strong Unix skills, experience testing multiple platforms.
· Financial applications experience with Oracle or SAP is a plus.
· Experience with Localization/Internationalization testing a plus.
· Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment and be able to adapt to changing priorities
· Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when coordinating teams.
· Highly motivated results-driven contributor with excellent troubleshooting skills.
· B.S. Degree in CS, Math, Engineering or equivalent.
